I’m sad to report our baby chicks are all dead. We’ve been keeping them in the basement in a large box. Our dog Gala has been curious about the chicks so we’ve kept the door closed to the basement to keep her away from the chicks. Someone (whose identity will remain undisclosed) forgot to close the basement door and Gala found her way to the baby chicks. They are no more. Lots of tears from my daughter. We decided we’ll get a new batch and start over. Derek is planning to make a dog-proof box this time.

That is really sad. 😦 Poor little mites.
May all broken hearts be healed!
Oh how sad. When my mom raised chicks the dogs were never very interested in them. The cat however had to be trained to leave them alone.
Oh no that is horrible. Sorry to hear that.
So sorry about the chicks 😦
😥
Oh, poor chickies — and poor Lily.
What a sad thing to have happen. So sorry!

So sorry to hear of the loss of your chicks. Hope the next ones are more dog friendly. Grrr.
So sorry to hear about the chicks! We have 1 inside puppy and a couple of outside dogs in our back yard. We had to build our coop and run in such a way that the dogs cannot get to the chickens. My dogs are my #1 predator…. We’re still working on the chicken run and double, triple securing it so the dogs can’t get to the chickens. So I know exactly what you’re talking about.
